It all begins with values.

PUTTING RELATIONSHIPS FIRST MAKES FOR A WINNING MINDSET

Our values govern everything we do, including why we do it in the first place.

At Hess Workforce, we understand a job is more than just a paycheck. If it's one's first paycheck, it represents self reliance, personal growth, well-being, and making a contribution to society.  It brings more options and better choices to one's life.  It impacts a family, a community, and becomes part of an economy that's 70% consumer spending.  Sometimes, a job transitions one from a community liability to a community asset.  That job ripples to each and every one of us.

Our work is all about inclusion and promoting upward mobility. Helping bring new people--often those with barriers to employment--into the workforce is our core business activity.  We've learned over the years that when a company employs diverse populations, they do more than make their numbers.  They profit from a diversity of perspectives and ideas.

VALUES RULE, ESPECIALLY WHEN FACING CHALLENGING SITUATIONS

How We Work

Stereotypes, profiling and labels limit human possibility. We nurture the integrity of the individual.
Industry jargon and biz-speak don't solve problems. Empathy, acumen and collaboration do.
Each decision carries a ripple effect for every stakeholder, both inside and outside the enterprise.
Great collaborations begin with trust. We nurture relationships throughout the client lifecycle.
Adaptation is essential to survive and thrive. It is also the origin of most innovation.
Great collaborations seldom happen with our mouths open and our ears closed.
Diligence and follow-through are what move the needle, creating memorable and sustainable impact.
We're obsessed with successful outcomes. Good sales numbers naturally follow great client experiences.

John Hess is President of Hess Workforce, Inc., a workforce solutions company that partners with nonprofit and for-profit organizations to support and expand their workforce training programs and hiring initiatives.

After spending over a decade as an analyst and portfolio manager with a Chicago based equity fund manager, John left the investment industry to focus his energy and passion for economic development in the workforce development space.  In 2008 John started Hess Workforce to help non-profit organizations manage their internship, work experience and transitional jobs programs as a means to move people disconnected from the workforce into meaningful employment.  As an incentive to hire these trained individuals, his company also assists employers in capturing the federal and state tax credits associated with hiring those with barriers to employment.

John has presented to numerous groups across the country regarding the importance of work-based learning and the benefits of tax incentives for hiring.  Hess Workforce has become the leader in providing workforce solutions to training organizations from coast to coast.

As a founding director and Vice President of the Social Enterprise Alliance Chicago Chapter and Board Treasurer of Greencorps Chicago, John continues to explore innovative solutions to economic development and moving individuals from poverty to full employment.
